SNOW REMOVAL
In the event
of snow, please remember the following. Please
disregard if you live in a municipality and follow your town/city’s
policy.
- Do not park on the
street if possible.
- Park only on the
EVEN side of the street if you cannot park off
the street.
- Remember that
shoveling and clearing the sidewalk adjacent to a single
family home or business is the responsibility of the
homeowner, renter, or business proprietor.
- If your street is
not cleared of snow, please use http://egov.co.pg.md.us/snowtrack/ to let the county know or call
301-350-0500. Please keep in mind that primary roads
are always handled first and then residential streets in a
snow storm. A complete guide to the county’s snow and
ice removal procedures is on my website at
http://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/district3/.
- The Department of
Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) also coordinates
a community partners program to better communicate all
DPW&T matters with neighborhoods in the County.
Community partners also advise DPW&T on roads that are
not cleared of snow. If your community does not have a
community partner, please call 301-883-5600 to become
one.
- Finally, if
you need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to
call my office. My staff and I were in the community
checking out problem spots reported to our office and on the
phone with the Director of DPW&T numerous times to
address problem areas from the last snow storm.
FIRE/EMS
DEPARTMENT: STAY SAFE DURING A WINTER STORM
Stay
Prepared: Make sure you have an emergency kit and a
flashlight with fresh batteries.
Stay
Informed: Listen to your local TV and radio stations
for updated information or visit www.pgfdnews.com.
Stay Safe: Have
a working smoke and carbon monoxide alarm (a free one is available
from the Fire/EMS Department); give space heaters at least 3-feet
from anything combustible; use only seasoned logs in your chimney;
and if you lose power use flashlights instead of candles.
Stay Home: If a State
of Emergency
is declared stay home and off the roads. If you have a
history of heart problems, don’t shovel snow. If you are
shoveling snow, take breaks, dress warmly, and keep hydrated.
Shoveling snow can be a strenuous task.
More details
can be found at http://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/fireems/.
SPEED CAMERAS
As mentioned in my previous newsletter, per state
legislation, the County, State as well as municipalities are able
to place speed cameras under certain restrictions in school zones
and in construction zones. While the County does not
currently have any speed cameras in place, two municipalities in
our district are operating cameras. Details on those
locations are included below and all questions associated with
those cameras should be directed to the municipality. In
particular, speeding on Good
Luck Road is being enforced by
municipal speed cameras. As always, please remember to
follow the speed limit.
