Audits & Investigations

Welcome to the Office of Audits and Investigations for Prince George's County, Maryland. The office was created in 1972 during the transition from a "Commissioner" form of government to a "Charter" form of government consisting of an elected County Executive and an Executive Branch; as well as, an elected County Council and the Legislative Branch of government. With it's establishment the Office of Audits and Investigations, under the County Auditor, was mandated to perform appraisals of activities within County Government organizations. We help to insure that the County Council has the information to make legislative decisions that are efficient, cost effective, and provide the best level of service to the citizens of Prince George's County. To support this effort and at the request of the County Council, we review proposed legislation to evaluate its fiscal impact on current or proposed County services.

Additionally as directed by the County Charter, we perform fiscal and performance audits of County agencies, and manage contracted external audits that are mandated by the Charter for Prince George's County, Maryland, the State of Maryland, or federal agencies. The Office of Audits and Investigations is completely independent of the Executive Branch of the County Government and therefore able to present an unbiased review of the effectiveness and efficiency of County departments' operating controls, as well as their compliance with related laws and regulations.

Please feel free to contact my office if you need any additional information concerning our activities that are not available at this site.

Sincerely yours,
David H. Van Dyke
County Auditor
