County Executive Welcome
Jack B. Johnson is the sixth county executive of Prince George’s County, the fastest growing county in the state of Maryland, and America’s wealthiest majority African American county.
Within three months of taking office, Mr. Johnson launched his highly anticipated Livable Communities Initiative, a paradigm shift that would instill a new sense of pride in citizens and residents and change the way Prince George’s County is defined.
Sworn in for his second term on December 4, 2006, Mr. Johnson has been making history in Prince George’s County by increasing the county’s budget by more than $1 billion; fully funding the school board’s budget for two consecutive years; rebuilding the police department into the largest in county history and stabilizing the management and operations of the Prince George’s Hospital Center. Additionally, under the Johnson Administration, the county received an improved bond rating from Wall Street for four consecutive years, giving the county its highest bond rating ever; and National Harbor, a $2 billion 300-acre mixed-use development project creating more than 3,000 jobs in the county and making Prince George’s County the gateway to the entire state of Maryland, is now a reality.
Mr. Johnson has 19 years of professional experience in public service as County Executive, State’s Attorney and Deputy State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, Maryland; as a former tax professor at North Carolina Central University School of Law and as a former Senior Attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel with the Internal Revenue Service.
