Commission Oversight Panel


Mission Statement
The mission of the Human Relations Commission, Commission Oversight Panel is to assist the Human Relations Commission (the agency) in meeting its mission to eliminate discrimination and infringement of civil rights and liberties by exercising its established authority as a review board appointed to review the findings issued by the Investigative Division of the agency.

Composition of Division & Responsibilities
The Human Relations Commission, Commission Oversight Panel is a panel of thirteen Commissioners appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council for one to three year terms. The County Executive designates the Commission Board’s Chairperson. Human Relations Commission Oversight Panel Commissioners serve in a voluntary capacity and are appointed to perform specific responsibilities and functions which include: attending regularly scheduled monthly meetings; serving on hearing panels; participating in panel deliberations, making recommendations regarding procedures, programs and laws to promote and protect equal rights and opportunities for all persons; writing and presenting panel recommendations; hear and review appeals of investigative findings and support or reverse findings through applying, researching and analyzing laws in accordance with race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation and familial status; attend and participate in public forums, meetings and training activities.
