Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Prince George's County Government (County) provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to serve employees and eligible members of their household. The EAP provides at no cost, confidential service through telephonic counseling and office visits for assessment, referral and short-term counseling services.

The EAP is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from an independent firm. Experienced professional counselors will assist employees with problems that may harm their attitude, attendance, or productivity. Personal crisis situations such as marital conflict, family breakdowns, emotional conflict, financial concerns, or alcohol/drug abuse are just some of the examples of problems that the EAP program can address.

If the problem assessed by the EAP can be handled within eight counseling sessions, then the EAP counselor will provide this service. When referral is necessary, your EAP counselor will provide employees, their families' and household members with appropriate referrals to approved outside resources.

The County offers the EAP program at no cost because we believe that employees and their families should be strongly encouraged to access the EAP as a first step in resolution when personal challenges threaten their well-being at home or at the office. An appointment can be arranged by calling the EAP provider on the toll-free 800 number. Your confidentiality is assured. The County does not nor will it receive information about individuals who use this program.

The County's Benefits Administration Division encourages you to contact the EAP on the toll-free number listed below. You may call them for a confidential, free appointment with an EAP provider in your area.

The EAP counselor you speak with will help you:

Clarify The Problem
The EAP counselor will help you clarify the reason you are seeking assistance. This ensures that the total concern is being addressed.

Identify Options
Together, you and the counselor will explore alternatives for addressing the problem. EAP counselors provide an objective point of view and can offer suggestions that you may not have considered.

Develop A Plan
An individualized plan is then developed. The plan may involve short-term counseling through the EAP or a referral to an appropriate resource in the community. In all cases, the decision of how to handle your concern and manage your life is up to you.
