Good Samaritan Award Program

Mission

The mission of the Prince George's County Good Samaritan Award Program is to provide the Prince George's County Executive with a means to recognize citizens and residents who have demonstrated an act of kindness or who have provided assistance to an individual(s), employees, communities, faith-based and religious organizations, businesses, schools or groups who need help.  This award can recognize others through outreach programs, humanitarian or advocacy for certain issues and causes. 

Goal

The goal of the Prince George’s County Good Samaritan Award (PGCGSA) is to identify and acknowledge acts of kindness through outreach in the community, humanitarianism and advocacy for certain issues and causes by presenting a proclamation or letter of recognition from the Prince George’s County Executive.

Criteria/guideline for nominating candidate(s):

  1. Recipient(s) and/or person(s) receiving the assistance should be a Prince George’s County citizen or resident. If a group, corporation, religious-based organization or school is the recipient of an award, that organization should be located in Prince George’s County.
  2. Recipient may be nominated by an individual, employee, corporation, faith-based organization, sorority or fraternity, and/or school, etc.
  3. Some form of written documentation such as a newspaper article, magazine article, and/or TV excerpt should be submitted with the PGCGSA nomination form.
  4. The recipient must have had a significant positive outcome in improving the quality of life for an individual(s). It must be an impromptu action in response to a need of an individual or group.
  5. A panel of judges will be established to review all nominations received for consideration. The judges will vote on the name(s) without prejudice on who they will recommend to the County Executive to receive the PGCGSA.
  6. The panel’s recommendation(s) will be forwarded to the County Executive for final approval.
  7. Once the County Executive has made a decision, a PGCGSA will be prepared by the Office of the County Executive for presentation.
  8. The PGCGSA will be presented in an area designated by the County Executive.
