Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) Meetings
from March through October 2009
held in partnership with
Maryland State AIDS Administration
Each of the Regional Advisory Committees (RACs) is located in each of the five Maryland Regions
(Central, Eastern, Southern, Suburban, Western).
We review and share information and make recommendations for
HIV/AIDS care and prevention priorities throughout Maryland.
The AIDS Administration values community input about HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives and care service delivery throughout the State of Maryland, so join us.

Maryland HIV/AIDS Statistics
- 34,024 people living with HIV/AIDS as of June 30, 2007
- 2,215 people newly reported with HIV from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2007
- 229 AIDS deaths reported from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2007
- Maryland had the 4th highest annual AIDS case report rate (24.8 cases per 100,000 population) of states/territories in the U.S. in 2007.*

This one-day conference offers two separate tracks for registrants.
Participants may attend one or both tracks of the conference.
The lunch hour denotes the end of Track 1 and the beginning of Track 2. |
Track One

Offers a Train-the-Trainer Workshop to prepare leaders to conduct HIV 101 sessions with their congregations and to initiate AIDS ministries. Each participant will leave the session with the materials necessary to conduct basic informational workshops. |
Track Two
1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. |
Offers appropriate program samples and examples to assist faith and ministry leaders from trying to re-invent the wheel. Detailed presentations of program operations and sample curricula will focus the discussion and provide the foundation for participants to develop a tentative action plan to present to their parishioners and/or leaders after the workshop. |

- Conduct a sermon to educate the congregation about serious health issues as: diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension (high blood pressure), and obesity.
- Distribute health-related literature
- Place health-related information in your Saturday/Sunday bulletins
- Conduct a health fair that may include HIV counseling and testing.
