Colorectal Cancer

There were 2,558 people in Maryland diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2005 and 1,017 people died of colorectal cancer in Maryland that year.

All medical advisory groups now recommend that adults routinely begin screening for colorectal cancer at age 50, and earlier if they have risk factors. Early stage colorectal cancer has no symptoms, which is why it often goes undetected at the early and most curable stage.

The Cancer Prevention, Education, Screening and Treatment (CPEST) Program offers colorectal cancer screening to adults over 50 who meet the program's financial criteria.
