The Housing Authority is composed of two branches: Housing Services and Property Management. The Housing Services Branch manages three services: Housing Information and Referral, Resident Services and Public Housing Occupancy. Housing Information and Referral Services are provided to those individuals who have unique housing-related questions or concerns. The Branch handles an average of 700 inquiries each month, and citizens are referred to the program or service that best meets their needs.

There are 600 units of public housing in Prince George's County, of which 488 are for the elderly. Services to the elderly residents of public housing include home geriatric support for those at risk of lease termination because they are unable to fully care for themselves. These vital services allow elderly residents to maintain an independent lifestyle and avoid early or inappropriate institutionalization.

The Housing Services Branch also manages the waiting list and all phases of intake processing. Each applicant must be initially certified for eligibility and suitability for public housing. Public housing applicants who are offered units must be reassessed annually for income eligibility.

The Property Management Branch manages and maintains eight Public Housing Authority properties in the County. The staff prepares funding applications, solicit and award bids and oversee rehabilitation work at the properties. An important component of this work is the Comprehensive Improvement Assistance Program (CIAP), under which HUD competitively awards funds for modernizing and upgrading public housing properties.
