Important Dates

 

March 12, 2010     Last day to pay taxes with a personal/business check for properties scheduled for tax sale. Payment by personal/business checks must be in the Treasurer’s Office by close of business.

March 14, 2010     Last day to make Online payments at www.princegeorgescountymd.gov for properties scheduled for tax sale.

March 15, 2010     Tax payments, for properties scheduled for tax sale, must be in the form of CASH, CASHIER’S CHECK, CERTIFIED CHECK, MORTGAGE COMPANY CHECK, MONEY ORDER or DISCOVER CARD. Discover Card payments may only be made in the Treasurer’s Office, not over the phone.

March 15, 2010     Online tax sale registration begins on www.princegeorgescountytaxsale.com. A non-refundable $150.00 registration fee is required.

April 1, 2010     An additional charge of $25.00 for advertising is added to the April amount on the tax bill.

April 7, 2010     List of properties to be offered at tax sale becomes available on www.princegeorgescountytaxsale.com

April 15, 2010     First printing of tax sale listing in four local newspapers: The Enquirer Gazette, The Prince George's Post, The Bowie Blade and The Prince George’s Sentinel.

April 22, 2010     Second printing of tax sale listing in four newspapers listed above.

April 29, 2010     printing of tax sale listing in four newspapers listed above.

April 30, 2010     Last day to register to bid in Tax Sale. Registration process MUST be COMPLETED by to 4:30 p.m.

May 3, 2010     Bid submission period begins on www.princegeorgescountytaxsale.com. Bids will be awarded to the highest bidder May 10, 2010.

May 6, 2010     printing of tax sale listing in four newspapers listed above.

May 7, 2010     All tax payments must be in the Treasurer's Office and posted by 4:30 p.m. to avoid tax sale.

May 7, 2010     Final update of tax sale listing will be posted on the website after 4:30 p.m. There will be a notation on the website indicating the final update has been completed. All accounts on the final list will be auctioned.

May 10, 2010     Tax Sale. Acceptance of bids for the 2010 tax sale begins. Seven batches of liens on properties will be offered for bid throughout the day. The first batch to be offered will begin at 8:00 a.m. Local Time and will close at 9:00 a.m. The second batch will begin at 9:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 a.m. and so on until all seven batches have been auctioned. Acceptance of bids for the final batch ends at 3:00 p.m. Local Time.

May 10, 2010     All bidders/purchasers must pay for their properties, including the high-bid premium, by ACH debit not later than 5:00 p.m. the day of the auction. The same bank account used to pay the registration fee will automatically be debited for the total amount due for certificates purchased. Purchasers must ensure the funds are available by 5:00 p.m.

June 7, 2010     Assignment Sale. Certificates for properties not purchased at tax sale on May 10, 2010 may be purchased at lien value as of this date. Certificates will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Contact the Treasurer’s Office at 301-952-3949 to purchase the certificates.
