TRIP Center Overview
The Traffic Response Information and Partnership Center (TRIP Center) uses a proprietary state-of-the-art multiple architectural system to manage the county’s traffic signal system. This system allows staff to install, manage and support traffic signaling devices, Portable Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Temperature Probes and Speed Awareness Radar Trailers throughout the county. TRIP Center staff monitors activity on county roadways on a real-time basis. As such, staff can make adjustments when needed, respond to unexpected traffic patterns or incidents and provide up-to-the-minute information to various users so that operational agencies can help travelers adjust their routes and use of transit and/or para-transit systems to current road conditions.
Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to monitor and control the operation of traffic signals and roadways in real-time, the TRIP Center is the primary center for management and coordination of transportation operations on Prince George’s County’s roadways. The Center is also the central location for the Department of Public Works and Transportation’s incident management and emergency operations activities, including snow & ice removal.
By collecting and analyzing traffic and transit data and sharing it with local and regional partners, the TRIP Center has effectively reduced congestion on county roadways.
During special events, TRIP Center staffs coordinate with agency partners to implement the most efficient traffic patterns and traffic information displays on Portable Dynamic Message Signs.
DPW&T provides incident management training opportunities to prepare for emergencies and inclement weather conditions, as well as to increase safety practices at home and work. Additionally, employees are trained and updated in the latest Incident Command systems used during emergency operations.
Likewise, the Department serves as an important link to the county’s Homeland Security Agency.
