Vacuum Leaf Collection

Vacuum Leaf Collection, a service provided by the Department of Public Works and Transportation, begins on Monday, November 17, 2008, weather permitting. A schedule of communities included in the first week of collection is posted under each district, which can be accessed by linking to View Current Leaf Collection Status in the above-right hand corner of this page. In addition, the Vacuum Leaf Collection Hotline, which can be accessed by calling 301.499.8520, lists the communities included in the first collection scheduled to begin on Monday, November 17.

All subsequent Vacuum Leaf Collection schedules on both the Website and the Hotline will be updated on the Monday of the following week. Communities will be posted seven (7) to ten (10) days prior to the scheduled pick-ups. It is important to note that every posting will include a weekend to allow residents and citizens an opportunity to rake before the actual pick-ups. Please also note that inclement weather or other emergencies can result in schedule delays.

When raking leaves, PLEASE:

  • Rake leaves to the curb only.
  • Wait until your community has been posted to rake your leaves to the curb.
  • Do not rake leaves into the street, storm drains or culverts, as this could result in flooding or other potential problems.
  • Do not rake anything (sticks, bottles, trash or any other debris) in with the leaves, as this could destroy the vacuums.

If you cannot rake your leaves, consider helping a student earn his/her required Community Service hours.  Contact your local middle or high school to inquire about the Community Service Program.

To find out if your community is included in the Vacuum Leaf Collection Program, please review the Vacuum Leaf Collection Subdivision Listing.
