The project objective is to enhance pedestrian and biker safety by installing a crosswalk on Paint Branch Parkway at the Trolley Trail. The crosswalk and associated improvements are designed to increase the visibility of the trail crossing, pedestrian presence and improve driver adherence to speed limits and pedestrian crosswalk laws that require motorists to stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Improvements include: roadway widening and installation of a median refuge island; installation of a brick concrete paver crosswalk; solar powered pedestrian activated yellow flashers at the crosswalk; installation of detectable warning surfaces on the crosswalk ramps; pavement overlay with installation of new pavement markings, including rumble strips, raised reflective pavement markings and reflectors on the raised island; traffic signing improvements, including pedestrian advisory signing alerting motorists to stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. |
