Adoption Success Stories

“DALTON”

August 21, 2008 – Emaciated and chained among trash and debris in a backyard, five month old Dalton’s life was off to a dreadful start. A black and tan Doberman mix, his only shelter was to lie under a truck and the only accessible drinking water was a child’s pool that contained water contaminated with black oil and mosquito larvae.

Fortunately, a caring citizen noticed Dalton’s plight and notified the Prince George’s County Animal Management Group (AMG). Two animal control officers investigated the complaint and confirmed the poor living conditions. They also found that while there was an open bag full of dog food in the bed of the truck, Dalton could not reach it. He was removed from the property by the animal control officers to protect his health and safety, and a cruelty notice was left with his owner.

Given a complete physical by a veterinarian; Dalton was diagnosed as severely underweight and had several preventable intestinal parasites, including one strain that is commonly found in animals that ingest rodent feces. The poor puppy was dirty, sick and most of all famished.

Thankfully a local animal rescue group that works with AMG took in Dalton. They fed him, loved him, and took him to adoption shows so he could meet and greet potential families. Within six weeks of being rescued, Dalton was adopted by a loving family and taken home.
