Our goal is to provide our customers, internal and external, with quality
vehicle-related services to ensure that our customers always have
the resources
available to accomplish their mission.
The Fleet Management Division is responsible for the overall management
of a fleet of 4,000 + vehicles used by agencies of the County Government.
This division operates a vehicle maintenance facility located in Capitol
Heights, and maintains 3,000 + vehicles at that service and repair center.
Services provided at this facility include general light and heavy repair,
scheduled preventive maintenance, vehicle emission inspections, body
repair, towing and road service.
Types of vehicles maintained include all County emergency and administrative sedans, senior citizen buses and light trucks. Additionally, this division provides repairs under contract for several County municipalities, the County Health Department, the Department of Social Services, and non-profit organizations. The division is also responsible for the following:
- Operating the Central Motor Pool
- Managing the County's motor fuels system dispensing 3.5 million gallons per year
- Overseeing the vehicle bodywork process
- Inspecting and receiving all new County vehicles
- Handling all County Government tag and title services
- Retiring unserviceable vehicles
- Developing mechanic training programs, as well as technical training for certification under the new Maryland State Vehicle Emission Program
