Prince George's County Court House Duvall Wing Fire Restoration Project - January to June 2008

On Wednesday morning, November 3, 2004, a fire struck the historic Duvall Wing of the Prince George’s County Court House. It destroyed virtually the entire second floor of the three-story portion of the Duvall Wing. What the fire did not destroy, smoke, water and mold quickly did. The results were that much of the interior of the three-story portion of the Duvall Wing had to be demolished down to the bare surfaces of the structural walls. Prince George’s County immediately began planning for its restoration.
We are in the first quarter of 2008 and the reconstruction of the Duvall Wing has made great progress.
| A new metal roof has been completely reconstructed and helps make the Wing water tight. |
This has enabled us to begin removing some of the protective barriers that covered the surviving mahogany in the five story. |

| New piping, conduit and cable trays now dot the space above the ceiling line.
Lighting fixtures are being hung and the boilers are in place.
With the dry wall going up and painting beginning in some areas the vision of the new design can easily be seen. |
Hot air is being pumped into the work area allowing all trades to perform their skills. |
 |
| During the past several months the County has celebrated a “topping off party” which is held once a building is closed in and water tight. The Contractor has also seen his efforts to promote the safest of work environments honored by the State of Maryland. We are all waiting for the celebration when we can begin moving offices back into the Duvall Wing approximately a year from now. |
