Animal Control

The Prince George's County Animal Services Division provides high-quality sheltering and care to homeless, abused, and neglected animals in Prince George's County and ensures the safety and welfare of the County’s citizens.  We operate the Prince George's County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC) and provide field service operations and respond to calls from citizens and residents regarding the following concerns:

  • Cruelty complaints
  • Injured animals
  • Nuisance animals or animals running at large
  • Sick animals
  • Vicious animals
  • For an animal related emergency, stray animal, animal bite, lost or found pet, carcass removal, deceased pet disposal, owner surrender appointments, and euthanasia appointments, please call 301-780-7200 and press "1"

 Note:

  • Dead animals on roadways: Deceased animals on State roadways (identified by a route number and a name) should be reported to 301- 513-7300. For deceased animals on County park property, call 301-627-7755.
  • The Animal Services Division partners with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MD-DNR) Wildlife Service to address concerns with sick or injured wild animals. MD-DNR is solely responsible for calls related to deer. Residents should call their toll-free line at 1-877-463-6497 (available Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm). 
    • If there is a wildlife emergency outside of these business hours, contact the Natural Resources Police 24-hour dispatch number at 410-260-8888. 
    • For more information on what to do if you see a sick or injured wild animal, please access the MD-DNR wildlife resources page here
  • Permission to trap wild animals must be obtained first from the MD-DNR at 877-463-6497.

 

Information Required When Calling With a Concern

You should have the following information ready when you call:

  • Name, address, and phone number (this information will be kept confidential)
  • Address where last seen
  • Animal's physical condition
  • Color of animal
  • Type of animal

 

As outlined in Animal Control Ordinance > Sec. 3-128. – Redemption; fees and costs:

"(a)

The owner of an impounded animal shall be entitled to redeem such animal, except as otherwise provided in this Subtitle, upon compliance with the license provisions of this Subtitle, payment of redemption fees, payment of costs accrued with respect to the animal to be redeemed, and presentation of satisfactory proof of ownership.

(b)

Redemption fees shall be as follows:

(1) A redemption charge of Fifteen Dollars ($15.00) for the first impoundment for altered animals and Sixty Dollars ($60.00) for the first impoundment for unaltered animals and One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) for any animal per each subsequent impoundment in a twelve (12) month period"
