Alcohol & Driving Don't Mix

Avoid the Mix of Alcohol and Driving Before the Party Ends

Holiday celebrations should be filled with joy, not spoiled by the tragedy of drunk driving. As the host of a gathering, you can play a crucial role in ensuring everyone gets home safely. It's a thoughtful move that your guests will surely appreciate.

Host Responsibilities:

  • Collect Car Keys: As guests arrive, be proactive – collect their car keys. When it's time for them to leave, assess if they're fit to drive. If not, help them arrange an alternative, like calling a cab.
  • Offer Non-Alcoholic Options: Provide a variety of non-alcoholic beverages. Some guests may prefer a refreshing soda over an alcoholic drink.
  • Serve High Protein and Carbohydrate Foods: Cheese and meats are great options to keep guests feeling full and less likely to drink excessively.
  • Choose a Non-Carbonated Base for Alcoholic Punch: If you're serving alcoholic punch, opt for a non-carbonated base like fruit juice. It's a tasty alternative with a lower risk of intoxication.
  • Cut Off Alcohol Early: Stop serving alcoholic drinks two hours before the party ends. Transition to coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages
  • Monitor Guests' Drinking: Keep an eye on guests who may be consuming too much. Engage them in conversation to slow down their drinking pace. When the party concludes, consider suggesting:
    • Have a sober friend drive the impaired person home.
    • Encourage the impaired person to stay overnight.
    • Offer to pay for a taxi to take them home.

Remember, your efforts can make a significant impact on the safety of your guests. Let's keep the festivities joyful and the roads safe for everyone this holiday season.
