PRESS RELEASE
Police Search For Murder Suspect Who Escaped Custody

Prince George's County, Maryland…The Prince George's County Police Department is searching for a man who escaped from police custody tonight. The man was under arrest in connection with a recent homicide.

On today's date, at approximately 5:30 p.m., two Prince George's County Police detectives had just served an arrest warrant charging 22-year-old Adrian Devon Ashton with First Degree Murder. Ashton was being transported back to the Criminal Investigations Division when he became combative in the 7700 block of Barlowe Road in Landover. He kicked the steering wheel of the detective's vehicle which caused the car to veer towards a sidewalk. While the car was out of control, the suspect managed to open the door. He fell out of the vehicle, was struck by a rear tire and was able to escape.

Adrian Ashton is a black male approximately 5'10" and has a medium build. He was wearing a white, long sleeved long john shirt, black jeans and black tennis shoes. His hands were cuffed behind his back.

The Police Department has established a perimeter of the surrounding area and have begun a massive search of the surrounding area. Officers with the Aviation Unit and Emergency Services Team are assisting.

The Police Department is asking that residents in the area to take precautions and keep their door and windows locked. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Adrian Ashton should call 911. The investigation is continuing.
