PRESS RELEASE
PGPD Seek Help in Identifying Homicide Victim

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit, continuing their investigation into a homicide that occurred in January, released a sketch of the victim and is seeking his identity.  Detectives arrested 30 year-old Jose Manuel Velarde of no fixed address in connection with this case, but efforts to identify the victim continue.

Detectives worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and generated a computer based sketch of the victim.  The victim is described as a Hispanic male, 5’0 and 158 pounds.  He has a tattoo of a spider web and a spider on his left arm and was wearing dark colored jeans, grey hooded sweatshirt and a black leather jacket.  The details of the homicide are as follows:

On January 21, 2008, at approximately 5:07 p.m., Riverdale Park officers responded to the 5400 block of Jefferson Street for the report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified male with multiple stab wounds to the upper body; he was transported to a local hospital where he died several hours later.  Investigators learned that the suspect stabbed the victim during a verbal dispute.

Anyone with information about the identity of the victim is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (301) 772-4925.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

For more information, call the Prince George’s County Press Information Office at (301) 772-4710.  Photographs of the victim are attached.  The investigation is continuing.
